What is TNR?

TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Return.  Its also known as TNVR which is Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return.   This is a process used worldwide which helps to humanely reduce feral cat overpopulation.

T=Trap

Cats are trapped in either a single trap with a door which trips closed behind them or with a drop trap that allows us to trap more than one cat at a time.  There is no pain involved!!  Maybe just a little bruised pride in being caught.

N=Neuter (or spay)

When we trap a cat or kitten it is taken to a vet.  The vet will perform an overall health assessment of the cat and if the cat is found to be healthy and old enough the vet will perform the spay or neuter to stop the ability of the cat to breed.  The cat will be vaccinated and its ear will be tipped which is the universal identification of a spayed or neutered feral cat.

R=Return

The last step is the return.  We hold the cats generally for 1 to 2 days to ensure they have recovered after surgery and they are brought back to the place where they were trapped.  These cats can now live the rest of their lives back in the colony where they came from, continuing their hard work as natural pest control mousers, without the worry of unchecked reproduction.
